Aegean Airlines was founded in 1987 under the name Aegean Aviation and became the first private airline with an air operator’s certificate in Greece and the largest Greek airline.
In the early years, it operated VIP flights from Athens to all over the world, with owned Learjet aircraft.
In March 1999, Aegean Airlines was established, launching scheduled passenger services.
Nowadays, Aegean Airlines operates scheduled and charter flights for domestic and international destinations from Athens and Thessaloniki, Greece.
Its main base is Athens International Airport, with secondary hubs at Thessaloniki International Airport "Macedonia", Heraklion International Airport "Nikos Kazantzakis" and Larnaca International Airport.
